Recently the Sharon Ruritan Club presented donations to two organizations in the Sharon area of Alleghany County.
Sharon Elementary School Principal Chris Jones listed a number of areas that can be enhanced by monetary gifts as well as by volunteer time to help teachers with extracurricular activities. As an example, he mentioned the Sharon School Halloween Activity to be held on October 13, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The night will include games, a cake walk, and refreshments sold.
Mr. Jones commented on a former annual presentation to the Sharon School from the Sharon Ruritans, namely classroom dictionaries which somewhat became unwarranted by the emergence of cell phones. However, dictionaries are still used since cell phones often become classroom distractions to younger students. However, needed to improve the school’s appearance are Sharon Elementary School rugs, flags, and shirts.
Another demand at times is substitute teachers to cover teacher absences. Student tutors are valuable but not easily available since each has to be qualified and approved by the Alleghany County School Board. Upcoming needs are volunteers to help organize and conduct the school sale of candles and the Santa Shop.
The Sharon Ruritans wish all students in the Alleghany Schools a successful year and the faculties at each school a prosperous one meeting needs of their students.
