QUICKSBURG – The opening kickoff set the tone for the Bath County Chargers (1-0) in their 2023 season opening victory over the Mountain View Generals.

On the opening kickoff, Luke Turner picked up the football and returned it 75 yards for the touchdown during the games first 14 seconds.

After the stop by the Chargers defense, on the teams ensuing first official drive of the 2023 season, junior-standout, Wyatt Campbell dropped back and tossed a gem of a deep throw to a trailing Andrew Turner for and 81 yard touchdown.

By the end of the first quarter Bath County had built a 21-point lead.

With just over three minutes remaining, Caleb Eaton pushed across the football into the endzone for their first score of the season for Mountain View. The Generals would convert their two-point attempt.

It wouldn’t even take a minute later for Bath County to answer the touchdown from Mountain View. 15 seconds in fact was how long it took the Chargers to answer when L. Turner returned his second kickoff for a touchdown, this one for 85 yards.

Bath County led 41-8 at halftime.

Campbell, the junior-standout for the Chargers, led the team with five total touchdowns (2 passing, 3 rushing) in the win over Mountain View. Campbell, who is arguably the potential favorite for player of the year in the Pioneer District, had a total of 281 yards.

Adding a big-game offensively for Bath County, A. Turner. The senior had a two-score performance as he had an 81-yard and a 13-yard touchdown receptions.

Meanwhile, senior, Hunter Waldeck added a rushing touchdown for the Chargers.

The win on Friday was Bath County’s second straight season opening victory.

This Friday, the Chargers will have their home opener at Carl F. Williams Field when they host Page County.
