Evelyn Crowder
Mrs. Evelyn Marie Bostic Crowder, age 76, of Covington, died Thursday, August 3, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Richard Mason Crowder.
Mrs. Crowder was born September 15, 1946, in Gap Mills, WV, the daughter of the late Charles Wesley Bostic and Mabel Clarkson Bostic. She was a lifetime resident of this community. During her working career, Evelyn was employed by the former Downer Hardware where she worked in the accounting department for over ten years. Mrs. Crowder was a longtime member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was on the Outreach Committee. She enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family, especially the time spent with her grandchildren. Evelyn was a selfless wife, mother, mammaw and sister who always thought of others instead of herself. She had a love for being in the kitchen cooking for her family and decorating the outside of her home with beautiful flowers.
In addition to her husband of fifty-five years, Richard Mason Crowder, Mrs. Crowder is survived by two daughters, Michele C. Porterfield and husband, Brian of Roanoke; Dawn C. Lewis of Covington; five grandchildren, Caitlyn Austin and husband, Sam, Hayden Porterfield, Abby Perkins, Madison Porterfield and Ava Lewis; three sisters, Florence Lindsay of Hot Springs, Norma Webb of Covington and Hazel Clineville of Salem; a sister-in-law, Robbie C. Warlitner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crowder was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley Bostic and Garland Bostic.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Pianapue Early and Bob McCallister officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Ratliff, Brian Porterfield, Hayden Porterfield, Mike Fisher, Eddie Fisher, Jeff Webb, Sam Austin and Randall Canterbury.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church.
