CLIFTON FORGE—Appalfolks of America Association will resume the Alleghany Highlands Writers’ Workshop at the Clifton Forge Public Library on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 5:30 p.m.
The writers’ workshop is open to the public and free of charge. Writers are invited to attend and bring samples of their writing to share with the group.
The writers’ workshop began in 2006, and many writers have attended and participated in poetry readings held at CFPL.
Ray Allen, author of four books of poetry and hundreds of articles that have been published in newspapers and magazines, will conduct the writers’ workshop.
Allen taught 11 subjects during his 41 years as an educator who taught in the public schools of Kentucky, Michigan, California, and Virginia. He is featured as a post-World War II poet in Encyclopedia of Appalachia, a 2006 publication by the University of Tennessee Press.
Allen remarked, “I welcome anyone who is interested in creative writing or journalism to attend the workshop which provides a supportive environment to encourage writers to hone their skills and share with others their creative endeavors.”
