COVINGTON – It’s been quite the stretch for the Covington Lumberjacks as they had won eight of their last 10 games.
The only blemish during that time came twice against the Charlottesville TomSox.
In game two of their doubleheader the Lumberjacks could not get enough run support as the team fell 2-1 to the Woodstock River Bandits.
It marked the first time in nearly a month that Covington lost to someone other than Charlottesville. The Lumberjacks had lost to Strasburg 5-3 on Thursday, June 15th.
Joe Jaconski put Woodstock ahead 1-0 on an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning. The River Bandits took a 2-0 advantage in the sixth inning behind an RBI double from Ryan Wilson.
Covington would get a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Gregory Melo double-play ground out that scored Christopher Watson from third base.
The Lumberjacks went down in order in the bottom of the seventh inning as Bere Bauers closed the game with a save for the River Bandits.
Logan Braunschweig led Covington with two of their four total hits. Kyle Pijaszek was hit with his first loss on the mound after allowing one run on three hits, while walking five in five innings. Pojaszek also struck out five.
Braunschweig recorded his team-high 11th stolen base for Covington.
