VDGIF Now Department Of Wildlife Resources

RICHMOND — The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries become the Department of Wildlife Resources, effective July 1.
The department was formed in 1916 as the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
In 1926, its name was changed to the Game Commission; in 1987, the name was changed back to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Now, it’s the Department of Wildlife Resources.
State officials said the demographics of Virginia have changed and the department’s name lost its relevance to the general public.
