Willem Nikkel
Mr. Willem Andre Nikkel, age 94, died Thursday, January 26, 2023. He was the husband of the late Anna Catharina Trap Nikkel. Mr. Nikkel was born January 28, 1928 in Mojokerto, Indonesia, the son of the late Herman Jan Nikkel and Jannetje Poolen Nikkel. Willem served in the Dutch Army. During his working career, Mr. Nikkel was employed as an engineer, later retiring from Westvaco where he worked in their research and development division. Having lived and worked in several places during his lifetime, Willem was both a Canadian citizen as well as an American citizen. He was a member of Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI).
Mr. Nikkel is survived by a daughter, Pamela Ann Lynch and husband, Mark of Yorktown; two grandchildren, Michael Waymon Lynch of Arlington and Aaron Christopher Lynch of Norfolk; a brother, Jan Nikkel; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Nikkel was preceded in death by a son, Philip W. Nikkell in 1968 and a sister, Sonja N. Ploeger.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Alleghany Memorial Park.
