Mrs. Mayme Louise Failes Smith, age 80, of Covington, died Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the Woodlands, Clifton Forge.
Mrs. Smith was born August 4, 1942, in Covington, the daughter of the late Ethel “Louise” Burkholder Failes Doig and Frank Failes, Jr. and wife, Shirley. She was employed as a cashier and greeter by Walmart for a number of years. Mrs. Smith was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Mayme also enjoyed volunteering at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, David Allen Sawyer of Ohio; a daughter, Jeri Lynn Hunnell and husband, Daniel of South Carolina; four grandchildren, Heather Tidwell, Breanna Schaub (Matthew), Corbin Salyer and Daron Hunnell; three brothers, Frank Failes (Glenda) of North Carolina, Malcolm “Britt” Failes (Laura) of Florida and Robert “Allen” Failes, of Ohio; three sisters, Roberta “Ann” George (Dave) of Delaware; Joni Graham (Ron) of Ohio and Tami Hawkins (Mark) of Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 26, 2023, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Kropff officiating.
