Mr. David Hammond Wenke, age 91, of Covington, died Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at his residence. He was the husband of Karen Phillips Wenke to whom he was married to for fifty-one years.
Mr. Wenke was born July 11, 1931 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Otto Rudolph Wenke and Mary Gertrude Hammond Wenke. He graduated from Woodrest Catholic School in Wilmington, DE in 1949 and went on to attend Villanova College. In 1970, Dave moved to Covington and was employed as the Head Draftsman for Hercules, Inc. Mr. Wenke was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Dave served this community as the chairman of the City of Covington Planning Commission for over twenty years. He was a also a member of the Beechbrook Hunt Club In Bath County.
In addition to his wife, Karen, Mr. Wenke is survived by two sons, Michael Wenke and wife, Marcy of Clearwater, FL and Craig Madison and wife, Tammy of Covington; three daughters, Claire Stevens and husband, David of Yorklyn, DE, Debra Sidell of Wilmington, DE and Kristin Madison Râpan and husband, Angelo of Memphis, TN; five grandchildren, Lacey Stevens and partner, Tim, Erin Levesque and husband, David, Michail Madison and partner, Megan, Mackenzie Madison and Michael Sidell; two great-grandchildren, Archer Levesque and Adeline Levesque; and a sister, Ann Wenke Noice of Sequim, WA.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wenke was preceded in death by a son, Michael Madison in 2013 and a brother-in-law, Benson Noice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Tom Collins and Father Augustine Lukenge officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Cannon, Eddie Salyers, Steve Shelor, Ed Kenny, Ron Brunetti, John Stec, Michail Madison and Craig Madison. Alternate pallbearers will be Jackie Chambers and Bobby Rice.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:30 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home. A Christian Wake will be conducted.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 255 W. Main Street, Covington, VA 24426.
