LOW MOOR — The Alleghany Highlands YMCA continues to widen its scope of offerings to its members and the surrounding community.
The YMCA has announced partnerships with Renew Active and One Pass, two options designed to help members stay fit and focused, along with Active & Fit and Silver & Fit, two exercise initiatives aimed at improving the health of younger participants and seniors. Additionally, the YMCA has joined the YMCA360 network, an on-demand video platform for the YMCA community that offers group exercise classes, youth sports training, well-being classes and much more.
“We are extremely excited to participate in these unique fitness opportunities,” said Alleghany Highlands YMCA Executive Director Jennifer Unroe. “These options are simply other avenues we offer in the YMCA’s efforts to enhance the health and quality of life for area residents.”
Renew Active and One Pass are alternatives to Alleghany Highlands YMCA members available at no additional cost through select UnitedHealthcare Medicare plans and through Medicaid. Through Renew Active and One Pass, members have access to all the benefits of a YMCA membership as well as other special offers.
“You can enroll in Renew Active, One Pass, Active & Fit or Silver & Fit anytime on or after the effective date on your eligible plan,” Unroe explained. “You will need to provide your confirmation code to enroll and receive access to our facility at no cost to you.”
Since becoming an option, One Pass has generated much interest among YMCA members. “If you are eligible for One Pass, you will have access to the One Pass membership at our facility at no cost to you, even if you are an existing member,” Unroe added. “You can call the customer service number on the back of your health insurance card to confirm your eligibility.”
The Alleghany Highlands YMCA joins a network of over 15,000 participating fitness centers and select YMCAs nationwide which offer the Active & Fit and Silver & Fit programs. Statistics indicate that individuals enrolled in these programs tend to work out more, meet new friends and become more socially engaged. Research also shows that the benefits of moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day can help reduce the risk of disease and obesity, enhance mental well-being and boost energy levels and productivity.
Active & Fit is offered as a wellness benefit through an individual’s health coverage and reduces monthly membership fees at the YMCA, while Silver & Fit is offered as an addendum to a senior’s Medicare supplement and provides its members with fitness options and healthy aging resources that empower them to get in shape.
The Active & Fit program also supports participants with online tools on Active&Fit.com, which includes educational classes, a quarterly educational newsletter, fun and social challenges and the Active & Fit Connected tool.
“To find out if you are eligible, check with your health plan or employer to see if it is an option for you,” Unroe said. “If not, let them know that you are interested in obtaining this benefit.”
Prior to participating in these or any other exercise or weight management program, it is advised to consult with your physician or another qualified health professional.
The Silver & Fit and Active & Fit programs are provided by American Specialty Health Fitness, Inc., a subsidiary of American Specialty Health, Inc., headquartered in Carmel, Ind.
Based in Omaha, Neb., and also a non-profit organization, YMCA360 provides the ultimate healthy living digital experience. More than 500 on-demand exercise classes and programs are accessible any time, providing another way to engage the YMCA from home or when you’re away.
“This robust digital experience combines immersive, healthy living with the values of the YMCA in a transformational presentation utilizing best-in-class people, programs and systems delivering the ultimate connected community,” Unroe said. “More than just group exercise, YMCA360 has something for everyone of any age or interest.”
