Lassomie Dawes Walker
Deaconess Lassomie Dawes Walker, 69 years old, earned her wings as she transitioned peacefully at her residence, 343 E. Hawthorne Street, Covington, VA, with her beloved husband, Rev. Greville Walker, and family at her bedside on January 25,2022. Deaconess Walker was born in Clifton Hanover, Jamaica, to the parents of the late Jonathan and Esmin Dawes. She grew up in Jamaica with the nickname “Wang”. She was preceded in death by her brother, Balfour Dawes. Deaconess Walker attended Clifton Hanover School in Jamaica and later attended and graduated from a school in England. She returned to Jamaica in 1972 and taught Early Childhood from 1975 to 1999. Deaconess Walker served as the hospitality hostess for visiting ministers in Jamaica.
Upon arriving in Covington, VA., in 2000, she became an employee of the YMCA from January 2000 until February 2020. Deaconess Walker was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Covington, VA. She was graceful, quiet, and a sweet lady. She was a wonderful housewife and mother. Because of her love for children, she was “everybody’s mother”. She loved to crochet and her favorite television shows were “Days of Our Lives”, “Life Time”, “Family Feud@ with Steve Harvey, “TLC”, and “Wheel of Fortune@ – which she never missed!
Deaconess Walker leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Rev. Greville Walker of 49 years; six children: Shermine (Jenica) Walker-Shaw (Mario), Greville (Jamie) Walker, Jr. (Shannan), Adrian (Lisa), Samantha Wallace, Joanna (Kim) Walker-McClain (Michael) and Floyd Walker (Tenice); Eleven grandchildren: Mareika, Omarie, Sheranna, Shawn, Karlson, Judie, Judihiad, Jonathan, Junia, Alyssa, and Ayla; Five sisters: Carmen Dawes, Jennifer Brissette, Joan Brown, Juliet Brissette, and Jacinth Dawes; One brother, Ewan (Honey) Brissette, Sister-in-law, Auntie Da; Brothers-in-law: Gerald and Zeebedee, and her dear spiritual mother, Deaconess Leatha Stewart (Mommie), and a host of dear cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held on February 12, 2022, at 12 Noon, at the Gospel Tabernacle Church, COGIC, 415 S. Alleghany Avenue, Covington, VA 24426. Family visitation will begin at 11:00a.m. and the funeral will begin at 12 O’Clock p.m. Pastor Joanna Walker-McClain of City of God Ministries, Bunker Hill, WVA, will deliver the Eulogy and Pastor Rosetta Stewart, First Baptist Church Covington will Officiate.
