HOT SPRINGS – Bath County lost their second straight girls soccer match following a home non-district loss to Auburn 8-0 last Friday in Hot Springs.

The Chargers could not shut down the trio of Katie Light, Grace Harris, and Kennedy Marshall who scored seven of the Eagles eight goals.

It was a big-time performance from Light who put together the hat-trick as she scored three of the AHS eight goals in the win.

While Light was sensational on the field, so too was both Harris and Marshall as they each had two goals. Harris also assisted on three goals. Logan Mundy provided the other goal for the Eagles.

The defense from the goalkeepers of Auburn shut down Bath County in the 80+ minute contest. While Marshall was dominant on the offensive side of the ball with two second half scores, she was just as effective in the first half of the game as she recorded two saves on the nets and earned the win. Josi Agee-Helms who went in for Marshall in the second half recorded a save.

On the defensive side of the field for Bath County, both Sierra Gardener and Jaeda Jenkins did their best to contain the Auburn offense. Gardener and Jenkins each had steals to lead the way for the Chargers. Kenley Smith and Samantha Horne each added four steals.

Smith led the way for BCHS with two shots on goal, while Laci Ryder had one.

Despite giving up the eight goals, goalkeeper Zoey Jenkins had a 17-save performance on the nets. Through eight games Jenkins has 153 saves on the season.

Bath County (1-6-1) was on the road on Tuesday at Miller School of Albemarle.

Auburn 4 4 – 8
Bath County 0 0 – 0

AUBURN (8) – Katie Light 3, Kennedy Marshall 2, Grace Harris 2, Logan Mundy 1.

SAVES – Auburn 4 (Kennedy Marshall 2, Josi Agee-Helms 1). Bath County 17 (Zoey Jenkins 17).

This past week has been an incredible one for the JV Lady Cougars' softball team, much like their season. They went 3-for-3 in games against Wilson Memorial on Monday and double header on Tuesday against Carroll County, bringing their regular season record to 11-1. In all three games this week, the Lady Cougars crushed their competition with scores of 11-6, 6-4, and 21-5, respectively. Pictured here is sophomore Peyton Broughman during Monday night's game against the Hornets. Broughman singled on a grounder to left field, allowing Brianna Terrell to score. (Jennifer Bailey Photo)
