Please vote for the Virginian Review Alleghany and Bath County Diamond Players of the Week for the week of April 15-20. Two boys and two girls from the area’s 4 teams (Alleghany baseball, Alleghany softball, Bath Co. baseball, and Bath Co. softball) are nominated and combined together in one poll. We will take the top vote getters and announce the winners from each school on Monday nights (time may vary week-to-week). Again, there will be a winner from each school. Voting closes Monday, April 22, 2024 at 4:00 PM.

NOMINEES:

Bryce Leitch- In a perfect 3-0 week for the Lady Cougars, Leitch hit a scorching .583 and added a double and a triple. She also scored 6 runs, had 3 stolen bases and had an RBI.

Laken Cantrell- Much like Leitch, Cantrell could not be contained. She hit .625, scored 6 runs, and drove in 6 more.

Kole Caldwell- Consistent week for Caldwell. He batted .571 with 2 triples, 4 runs scored, and 3 RBIs in a 3-game week (one game suspended in 7th inning due to rain).

Brady May- hit .500 including a triple and a double. Also scored 3 runs and had 2 RBIs. On the mound, pitched 4 innings, scattered 4 hits and struck out 9.

Jake Boguess- Good week with 2 hits, 3 RBIs, 2 runs, and 2 walks.

A.J. St. Clair- totaled 4 hits, 2 runs, and had an RBI as well.

Trinity Forbes- Forbes had 2 hits for the JV Chargers softball team.

Georgia Watkins- Watkins also laced 2 hits for the Lady Chargers this week.

Oops! Sorry about that, voting has closed.

But wait! There's another one coming up very soon!

During the Cougars' most recent victory over the Floyd County Buffaloes, senior Anthony Webb sent a line drive down center field, which ultimately got him to second base and allowed Hunter DePriest to score. The play got the Cougars an early lead over the Buffaloes at the bottom of the first and became the only run either team would score in the first inning. (Jennifer Bailey Photo)
