November 27, 1931: Looking Into Deaths Of Two Killed Sunday
A special grand jury met here today to investigate the deaths of constable Joseph Myles, 42 years old, and Jack Born 28 years old, both of Quinwood, fatally wounded Sunday after they left a negro dance hall at Leslie, W.Va., where they attempted to quell a disturbance.
Tom Jackson, a negro, is held as an accessory.
Four other negroes, men and women are held as material witnesses. All were brought here from the town jail at Rainelle after threats had been made against them.

November 27, 1946: Half-Day Holiday For State Employees
State employees will be given a half-day off on Christmas Eve this year whenever practicable within various state departments and agencies, Governor Tuck has announced.
The governor yesterday signed an order allowing a half holiday beginning at 12:30 p.m. Christmas, the time off to be in lieu of the usual allowance to state workers on one-half day off sometime before Christmas for shopping.

November 27, 1971: First Aid
The Covington First Aid Squad on standby at the Covington-Radford game on Friday night, answered three alarms. At 9:15 the squad treated Greg Taylor for a possible chest injury. He was taken to Alleghany Memorial Hospital.
At 10:25, the squad administered first aid to Jerry Peters who had sustained a possible knee injury, and Frankie Alfred for a possible back inhury. Both were taken to Alleghany Memorial Hospital.

November 27, 1996: Roanoke Man Receives 62 Years For Phone Calls
A Roanoke man who stalked schoolchildren and made obscene telephone calls received a 31-year sentence Tuesday.
Michael A. Obremski was sentenced earlier to 15 years in Roanoke County and 16 years in Botecourt County, giving him a total prison sentence of 62 years.
Obremski’s sentencing culminated a three-year investigation into hundreds of obscene and threatening calls that were made to girls throughout the Roanoke Valley.
Police say Obremski looked for his victims in newspapers, getting the names of girls who were credited for making the honor roll or excelling in sports and calling them from a pay telephone outside his low-budget motel room.

November 28, 2011: Oil Prices Up Near $100
Oil prices were up $3 on Monday, to near $100 a barrel, supported by a strong start to the U.S. holiday shopping season, continuing tensions in the Middle East and new hopes for progress in the European debt crisis.
By early afternoon in Europe, benchmark crude for January delivery was up $2.81 to $99.58 a barrel in electronic trading on teh New York Mercantile Exchange. Earlier in the session, it rose as high as $100.74. On Friday, the contract rose 60 cents to settle at $96.77.
In London, Brent crude was up $2.51 at $108.91 on the ICE futures exchange.
Oil took its cue from Asian and European stock markets, which were considerably higher Monday after record 226 million shoppers visited stores and websites during the four-day U.S. holiday weekend starting on Thanksgiving Day. That was up from 212 million last year, according to early estimates by The National Retail Federation.
