DALEVILLE - The Alleghany boys tennis team rounded out their regular season Blue Ridge District schedule with a hard-fought 5-4 road-win over Lord Botetourt Monday.

Ethan Smith lost a tough tiebreaker to Botetourt’s Devin Snodgrass 2-6, 6-1 (10-7) at No. 1 singles, but teammates Brian Bess, Adama Waltesr, Jonan Eggleston and Devin Nicely all picked up singles wins to give Alleghany a 4-2 lead heading into doubles.

Alleghany’s No. 3 doubles team of Eggleston and Nicely picked up a huge 8-1 win over Botetourt’s Brandon Winger and Dakota Garnett to break a 4-4 tie and give AHS the deciding match-point.

“We were a little sluggish today,” said Alleghany coach Jimmy Smith. “Brian and Adama played well in singles. They have been our most consistent players.

“Jonah and Devin played well in singles and doubles again,” added Smith. “We had a good regular season and finished second in the districet. We need to work hard in practice and prepare for the district tournament next week.”

Alleghany rounds out the regular season with a 7-3 record in Blue Ridge District play and an overall record of 11-5.

They begin play in the Blue Ridge District tournament next Monday at the Lexington Country Club.
