Cougars Continue Regional Track Dominance

FISHERSVILLE, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany girls track and field team delivered another strong performance at the Region 3C meet, highlighted by a record-setting run from the girls 4×800 relay team and multiple regional titles.

Alleghany’s 4×800 squad of Faith Barron, Maggie Hensley, Kiera Lowman and Willow Morgan captured first place in 10:01.08, dropping eight seconds off their previous school record. The victory also marked the program’s fifth straight Region 3C championship between indoor and outdoor competition.

The Lady Cougars also claimed another regional title in the 4×100 relay as Cambria Ransom, Jaylin Robinson, Leigha Byers and Ja’kara Heighter crossed first in 50.29.

Heighter led the sprint events individually, winning the girls 100-meter dash in 12.33 and finishing second in the 200-meter dash in 26.18. Ransom added a fifth-place finish in the 200 at 27.08, while Robinson placed 11th in the 100 in 13.13.

In distance events, Kiera Lowman finished fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:04.00, while Maggie Hensley placed 10th in 5:50.91. Faith Barron added another fourth-place finish in the 3200-meter run at 12:05.60, and Avery Spinks finished 14th in 14:41.63.

The 4×400 relay team of Leigha Byers, Jaylin Robinson, Elin Heck and Willow Morgan earned fourth place in 4:17.33.

Morgan also placed seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.78.

In hurdles competition, Brooklyn Connor placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.78, followed by Zamya Hayslett in 18th at 21.01 and Willow Davis in 20th at 21.85.

Connor also competed in the 300-meter hurdles, placing 20th in 55.80. Elin Heck finished 18th in 54.59, while Catie Lipes placed 22nd in 57.74.

In field events, Jaylin Robinson placed 18th in the triple jump at 29-06.50. Chloe Warlitner finished 17th in the shot put with a throw of 27-04.75 and added a 12th-place finish in discus at 82-09. Solara Kern placed 20th in discus with a throw of 68-00.

Alleghany also received a 12th-place finish in the high jump at 4-08.00.

 

The boys team also turned in multiple top finishes at the Region 3C meet, highlighted by a regional championship from Evan Bishop and a runner-up finish in the 4×400 relay.

Bishop captured the boys 800-meter regional title with a winning time of 1:58.80, giving Alleghany its top finish of the meet on the boys side.

The Cougars also earned a second-place finish in the 4×400 relay as Miles Christian, Daimonie Clayton, Evan Bishop and Maddox Wickline crossed in 3:25.50.

Christian and Wickline both placed in the top seven of the boys 400-meter dash. Christian finished sixth in 50.84, while Wickline followed closely behind in seventh at 50.93.

In sprint competition, Desmond Jordan placed 17th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.66, while Daimonie Clayton finished 19th in 11.71.

Jordan also delivered a strong finish in the 110-meter hurdles, placing fifth overall in 15.38.

Cole Bowser represented Alleghany in the boys 1600-meter run, finishing 13th in 4:50.27. Levi Bartley placed 21st in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:42.10.

The boys 4×800 relay team of Levi Bartley, Cole Bowser, Maddox Hale and Trevor Jonas finished sixth overall in 9:12.30.

In field events, Austin Greene placed 10th in the high jump with a mark of 35-10.00.

Alleghany also competed in the discus throw as Sarge Persinger finished 16th with a throw of 89-02 and Daquan Anderson placed 18th at 80-08.
