Today’s Headline: Billiard Parlor Looted By Thieves.
Thieves breaking into Earl’s Billiard Parlor next to the Virginian building over the weekend carted away an assortment of cigars, pipes and a few pennies amounting to a loss of $20.
Entrance was gained to the premises through a vacant store whose borders on an alley which runs between the building and the newspaper office.
Paul Milton, of South Marion Street, and a man by the name of Payne, reported to officers that they were both knocked in the head and robbed by four men a short distance from Milton’s home about 3 o’clock Sunday morning.

Today’s Headline: Elected First President Of Alleghany Country Club.
Roscoe B. Stephenson Jr. was unanimously elected president at a meeting of the board of directors of the Alleghany Country Club this morning. The meeting was held in the offices of the Covington Chamber of Commerce.
Other officers elected were Henry Wright, vice president; Kurt Wassen, treasurer and Mrs. Gertrude Hatcher, secretary.
Plans are now underway for the annual Covington Water Carnival and Miss Covington Beauty Pageant to be held at the municipal pool Saturday night, July 29.

Today’s Headline: Oldest Covington Business Gets Face Lift.
Hodges Jewelry Store, the oldest continuous business in the city of Covington, is undergoing a face Lift which emphasizes the history of the business and the building it presently occupies.
The letters shown on the store front of the Main Street business are the letters from the business’ earlier sign, designed by Thomas Hodges Sr., father of the present proprietor.

Fresh from a day off, there was no stopping the Woodlawn Junior Leaguers Wednesday morning at Memorial Park in Clifton Forge.
Twin brothers Ethan and John Jarding lead the Alexandria-based team to the Virginia State Championship with a 14-0 five-inning win over the Alleghany Highlands.
