Today’s Headline: Blazing Start To Firemen’s Festival In Clifton Forge.
The annual firemen’s festival in Clifton Forge got off to a blazing start last night when a two-car garage on the alley east of Commercial Street ignited, sending flames mounting 50 feet into the air.
A Chevrolet roadster, partially paid for by J.P. Madden of Commercial Street, the scene of the fire, was completely burned. The garage was owned by Sam Sachs.
Even if the first night of the festival had not been a success, the firefighters had ample opportunity to demonstrate their efficiency and importance to a crowd of approximately 500 persons who thronged the street at 10:30 when the fire alarm shrieked its proclamation of a blaze.
