Today’s Headline: Stray Police Dog Shot By Officers.
Chief of Police George Arritt, Game Warden Perry Wright and Deputy Sheriff Meeks went dog hunting this morning in response to complaints from several parties against a large stray police dog, which was said to have been vicious.
The dog was finally shot on McCurdy Street, after he had been discovered several blocks from the place and had gotten away from his pursuers.
Mr. Wright ended the canine’s career with a load of buckshot from a shot gun.

Today’s Headline: Fire Takes Life Of Little Girl And Destroy’s Home.
Fire struck the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Johnson of Virginia Street without warning at 1:30 a.m. Sunday and claimed the life of Brenda Grace, 6, the older of their two daughters. The Johnsons and Linda Gayle, 4, their younger daughter, escaped, but suffered burns in the process.
Firemen L.A. Wolfe, Eddie Carter and Dempsey Bush entered the smoke-filled house and recovered Brenda’s body from the bedroom.
Neighbors awakened by the Johnsons’ screams had called the fire department and cared for the injured until they could be taken to the hospital.

Today’s Headline: Long-Johnson Marry In Hospital.
Ms. Vickie Johnson of Lexington and FC2 Douglas Long were united in marriage at 6 o’clock in the evening on July 22 at Alleghany Regional Hospital.
The bridegroom is the son of Landon L. Long and Mary Alice Long of Clifton Forge.
Drema Bunch is the Associate of the Month at Roses in Covington.

Gregory Alan Grimes, 31, of Covington, has been convicted of five counts of possession of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography.
