Today’s Headline: Clifton Forge Gets As Much As Alleghany County.
Clifton Forge alone gets practically as much WPA money on the last allotment as Covington and the rest of Alleghany County combined.
Alleghany County and the city of Clifton Forge received $17,459 from the $256,008 appropriation for projects from the WPA which were announced yesterday in Richmond.
The city of Clifton Forge received $8,477, while Alleghany County received $8,983.
Clifton Forge is a city and not part of Alleghany County.
Covington, a town, is part of Alleghany County, as much so as Selma, Iron Gate and Low Moor.

Today’s Headline: Sportswear Plant To Located In Clifton Forge.
A nationally-known women’s sportswear firm will definitely locate a plant in Clifton Forge on a 90-day trial basis, it was announced today by a spokesman for the board of directors of the Clifton Forge Industrial Development Corporation.
The name of the firm remained a secret as of press time.
Debra Sue Stone, 4, of 113 Beech St., Covington, reportedly suffered a fractured skull in an accident involving a vehicle driven by Roland Lee Stone Friday afternoon near Buena Vista.

Today’s Headline: Pool Will Reopen This Summer After Repairs Are Completed.
Covington City Council unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday night which will authorize the Covington contracting frm of Hammond & Mitchell Inc. to begin flood repairs at the municipal pool, which is scheduled to open the first week of August.
