Today’s Headline: Covington’s Municipal Swimming Pool Got Its Formal Opening Friday.
Hundreds of Covington citizens crowded around the new municipal swimming pool and playground last Friday night as the American Legion and town folk combined in the dedication of the recently-completed project.
Sunset was the time picked for the ceremonies and offered a colorful background for the occasion.

Today’s Headline: Webb Returns To Old Stand.
Beginning today, the plumbing and heating department of Webb’s Plumbing and Heating Inc. will be moved back to its old location on Riverside Street near the paper mill entrance, according to John A. Webb.
Webb states that he will devote all of his time and effort to the Riverside Street store, where he plans to sell water supplies, water heaters, washers, floor covering and a complete line of supplies and parts.

Today’s Headline: Teresa Ginger Representing Highlands In Miss Virginia Pageant.
Teresa Jane Ginger, the 1985 Miss Alleghany Highlands, leaves for Roanoke Monday in preparation for the Miss Virginia pageant, which will be held July 10-12.
Ginger is the daughter of Ira T. and Patsy Ginger of 126 Park St., Altamont.

Today’s Headline: Fire Destroys Singlewide In Boiling Spring Area.
A fire destroyed a trailer on Mert Road in June.
The Boiling Springs Fire Department responded to a call at 4:15 a.m. on June 12 for a singlewide trailer on fire.
According to reports, the trailer was destroyed.
One firefighter was transported to Alleghany Regional Hospital for injuries received in a fall.
