Today’s Headline: Old Letters Now On Display In Covington.
An author’s efforts to obtain information from a relative of the Callaghan family recently, has brought to light several old letters written more than a century ago. Some of these old letters are now on display on the window of a Main Street hardware store here in Covington.
Despite rain earlier in the afternoon and threatening skies last night, a crowd estimated at more than a thousand persons gathered at the municipal pool to view the first water carnival ever to be staged in Covington.

Today’s Headline: Watson High Work Started.
The new two-story addition to Watson High School will be ready for use in September of 1962.
The two buildings that were in the way of the addition have been torn down and the land on which they stood is ready to be graded.
The new building will cost $239,775 and will be similar to a split-level house.
Total enrollment for Watson High after the building is completed will be between 600 and 650 students.

Today’s Headline: AHS Expected To Open On Time.
The latest story from the local rumor mill would have parents believe the summer furlough is going to be extended another three weeks for Alleghany High School students because of flood repairs now underway, but school officials say AHS will open its doors on schedule.
Repairs and replacement of the school’s equipment and facilities damaged in last November’s flood have been ongoing since school closed in June.

Today’s Headline: Joel Clark Recipient Of National Award.
Joel Clark, rehab director of Trinity Mission Health and Rehab Facility of Farmville, was the recipient of the National Wellspring Excellence Award for outstand wellness and therapy program.
Clark is a 1973 graduate of Alleghany High School and went on to spent 21 years in the military, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division, 18th Airborne Corp. and the 5th Mechanical Infantry Division.
