Today’s Headline: Self-Inflicted Pistol Wound Very Serious.
Suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the abdomen, Miss Mildred Lewis, daughter of Mrs. J. Warner Lewis of Clifton Forge, is in the C&O Hospital in that city today.
The shooting occurred at 8:15 last night at the home of her mother on Sixth Street, Clifton Forge.
Mrs. Lewis is said to have reported today that the shooting must have been accidental as her daughter had no known reason for attempting to take her life.

Today’s Headline: City Council Reads Bond Issue Into An Ordinance.
Covington City Council last night gave first reading approval to the proposed $1.05 million school improvement bond issue, after spending some time in arguments over the wording of the document and whether it should be an ordinance or a resolution at its regular meeting at city hall.
The Alleghany County School Board Tuesday passed resolutions authorizing county Superintendent Walter Hodnett to ask for permission to purchase two new school buses at an estimated cost of $10,500.

Barbara Warlitner from Covington is the recipient of the Division Unit Volunteer Award presented by the American Cancer Society, Virginia Division Inc.
The award gives statewide recognition for outstanding volunteer work in the local community.
Warlitner was honored for her activities in the Covington-West Alleghany Unit of the American Cancer Society.

The Bath County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident of a child suffering a gunshot wound.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, the dispatch center received a call at 10:53 a.m. July 3 for a child being treated in the Bath County hospital emergency room for a gunshot wound to the hand
