Today’s Headline: Same Water Tax Paid In Covington Must Be Paid In South Covington.
Enforcement of the letter of the old ordinance as to water rates in force in Covington for many years was voted by the town council last night after a lengthy discussion of the problem.
The special meeting was called to hear complaints from residents of Rayon Park Terrace, who complain of the town rate.
This week marks the seventh anniversary of the A.W. Cox Department Store in Covington.

Today’s Headline: Parade Today Promotes The Tuesday Bloodmobile Drive.
Covington’s annual Bloodmobile Parade, sponsored and organized by the church youth organizations of the community and featuring floats entered by 10 area churches, will begin today at 4 p.m. at the National Guard Armory.
Brenda Cottrell, the reigning “Miss Covington,” will lead the parade.

Today’s Headline: Tourism Brings $10.6 Million To The Alleghany Highlands.
Tourism, Virginia’s second-largest industry, contributed $288 million to state and local tax coffers last year.
Tourism is also vital to the economy of the Alleghany Highlands.
Expenditures by all U.S. travelers to Alleghany County amounted to over $10.6 million.
In Bath County, over $120 million was spent by tourists during 1985.
