CLIFTON FORGE - Robert Clarence “Uncle Bob” Ayers, 92, of 202 Bradberry Lane, Clifton Forge, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 31, 2011, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 22, 1918, in West Virginia.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he was affectionately known as the “Candy man.” He was also the mechanic for the first bus in the Immanuel Baptist Church bus ministry. He was a retired truck mechanic for Covington Motors, a water well driller and an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by Bobby and Arnold Bradberry and their families, and the family of James Bradberry. He lovingly called Bobby’s daughters, Teresa and Kathy, his girls. He is also survived by his Immanuel Baptist Church family and special friends and caregivers, Richard and Imogene Deeds.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church, 2819 Douthat Road, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. Bill Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Bradberry Family Cemetery on Douthat State Park Road.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the church.
