Today’s Headline: In Police Court At Clifton Forge.
Jimmy Johnson, proprieter of a tea room on East Main Street in Clifton Forge, was summoned to police court there this morning for alleged violation of the city ordinance which forbids the making of unnecessary noise between 11 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Johnson was released with a warning from Mayor Frank H. Wheeler that he would be given “the limit” for a second offense of that nature.
He was summoned by officer H.B. Buchanan who declared that noise from the tea room could be heard on the steps of the city hall several hundred yards away.

Today’s Headline: Harrison Pledges Action To Open Community College.
Albertis S. Harrison Jr., stumping western Virginia in his quest for the Democratic nomination for governor, pledged his full support today to opening the proposed Covington-Clifton Forge Community College “just as soon as possible.”
Harrison lauded local efforts to establish the college. He said such an institution will assure young people of the area “an opportunity to get started on their college education without leaving home and at the lowest cost possible.”

Today’s Headline: Virginian Receives New Press Unit.
Employees of D.D. Kerns in Covington unloaded a 5,000 pound press unit at the offices of the Covington Virginian.
The unit, which arrived Thursday, will increase the current press’ capacity of printing 16 pages per run to 20 pages.

The search continued today for Nikki Godbold of Dunlap Creek Road, who was playing at the home of her grandparents and was swept into Dunlap Creek Tuesday afternoon.
