Mr. Joel Watkins passed away at his home in Iron Gate this morning at 1:40 after a brief illness.
Mr. Watkins was very popular here and in the surrounding communities and will be greatly missed by all.
Approximately $30,000 worth of government checks have been received at the Clifton Forge Post Office and delivered to World War veterans in payment for the baby bonds.

Today’s Headline: Renew School Contract For Alleghany County.
The Covington School Board met last night for its last meeting of the 1960-61 fiscal year and postponed until its next regular meeting on July 5 any decision on which bid for the Phase II addition to Watson High School it would accept.
Superintendent W.R. Beazley reported on the progress of the preliminary plans for the addition at Covington High School and they had been approved by the State Board of Education except for a minor detail concerning the arrangement of the girl’s locker rooms.

Today’s Headline: Heart Fund Directors Honor Mrs. Brackman.
The Alleghany Heart Fund Unit held its annual Board of Directors meeting last night at Western Sizzlin’.
Clinton Collins, president, dedicated the evening to Mrs. Glenna Brackman.
Mrs. Brackman, who passed away June 12, had served the heart unit as Memorial Gifts chairperson for the past 24 years.
