Daniel Eugene “Danny” May

Daniel Eugene “Danny” May, 67, of White Sulphur Springs West Virginia, passed away on July 30, 2026. Born on March 20th, 1959, to John and Sylvia May, Danny lived a life centered on family, hard work, and finding joy in the simple things.

Danny is survived by his loving wife, Linnlette Masters May, with whom he shared 23 wonderful years of marriage. They were married on July 13, 2003, at Wild Meadow Baptist Church in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.

He is also survived by his former wife, Tammy Smith and leaves behind two of their three children, Terra May and Crystal May. He was a proud grandfather to Gabriella, Zachery, Michael, Chevelle May and Jemma Wright – whose lives brought him endless joy. He and Linnlette also had the honor and privilege of helping raise her grandchildren, Anse and Arlo Justice, who held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his brother Dale May and countless extended family/friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Sylvia May as well as his Step Mother Cynthia Byer May; his sisters Linda May and Jerry Windsor as well as brothers John Boy and Roger May. He is also preceded in death by his son, John Thomas (J.T) May.

Danny was a painter for the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA where he stayed for 25 years. He also volunteered as an EMT for Dunlap Fire and Rescue. He then spent some time at Bacova Guild, then as a tractor trailer driver for Garten Trucking. He spent the last few years of his life cooking and feeding the community of White Sulphur at Hardee’s.

Anyone who knew Danny will likely smile when they hear the words, “Cock-a-doodle-doo!” Inspired by the rooster that greeted him each morning outside his window. It became one of his favorite sayings and a small reminder of his lighthearted spirit that family and friends will always remember. He enjoyed working on his landscaping and spending time with his grandchildren who he loved with all his heart. He also enjoyed tinkering
with his truck and listening to his classic rock albums.

Danny’s kindness, steady presence, sense of humor, and love for his family will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at 11am at Eakle Chapel Methodist Church, located on Big Draft Road in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Danny’s life, share memories, and honor the legacy he leaves behind.

CLIFTON FORGE, Va. - Kymari Rice and Nathan Blankenship, members of the Alleghany football team, recently showed that character goes far beyond what happens on the field.
A woman had fallen after missing a step. Rice immediately ran over and helped her to her feet. Blankenship grabbed her buggy and helped her safely to her vehicle.
Neither hesitated. Neither waited for someone else to step in. They saw someone who needed help and acted.
It was a simple act of kindness, but one worth recognizing. In a world where young people often receive attention for the wrong reasons, Rice and Blankenship provided a reminder that there are plenty of young people doing the right thing when no one is asking them to.
Their actions showed respect, compassion and character — qualities that deserve just as much recognition as anything accomplished on the field.
