HOT SPRINGS – The Bath Couty girls basketball team played host to Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind and posted a 51-2 win Thursday night in Charger Gym.
Allison Sharp led the Chargers with 16 points, while Shonique Gardner added 10. Hannah Robertson finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
Bath County – who held VSDB without a field goal the entire game – led 20-1 after the first quarter and 34-2 at the half.
The Lady Chargers opened the game with an 18-0 run before the Cardinals got on the board.
A Sharp dish to Gardner gave Bath County a 10-0 lead just two minutes into the game and Angela Herscher’s dish to Hannah Robertson capped BC’s 18-0 run with 2:50 left in the first quarter.
VSDB’s Rosa Santana hit one of two from the free throw line to make the score 18-1 and Sharp added a layup to make the score 20-1.
A pair of Gardener free throws gave the Lady Chargers a 30-1 lead with 4:44 left in the first half. Bath led 32-1 before VSDB’s Keaunna Bolden made one of two from the line for the Cardinals final point of the night.
Herscher’s lane jumper with 2:07 left in the first half gave Bath County a 34-2 lead after two quarters.
Two Sharp layups midway through the third quarter increased Bath County’s lead to 44-2 and Jordan Fry’s dish to Sharp with 30 seconds in the third stanza gave the Chargers a 48-2 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
Fry scored all three of the Chargers points in the fourth quarter as they cruised to the 51-2 non-district victory.
Bath County (3-0) is back in action tonight as they play host to Buffalo Gap in a make-up game. Action starts with the JV game at 6 p.m.
