WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – Sue H. Ballard, 79, of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, in Charleston, W.Va., following an extended illness.

Mrs. Ballard was born May 13, 1930, in White Sulphur Springs, the daughter to the late Lester L. and Mae Huff.

Mrs. Ballard was a loving and giving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother that was most devoted to her family. Her professional career sp-anned 25 years as general manager of The Shops at The Greenbrier Resort – Alanson’s, Ritner’s, Stephen Craig, and Maggie Day. Mrs. Ballard completed her retail career with 15 years of service as the general manager for Stone & Thomas in Lewisburg, W.Va. She was a lifelong member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and a member of Eastern Star Chapter No. 148, where she held the position of worthy matron. She was a member of the Lewisburg Chapter 96.

Mrs. Ballard had spent the past few years residing in Charleston and Lewisburg enjoying her family following retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph.

Surviving are three children, Linda Ballard-Price and husband, Elmer Price of Daniels, W.Va., Ralph L. Ballard III and wife Debbie of Charleston, W.Va., and Richard Ballard and wife Denise of Alpharetta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Briana, Ralph IV and Derek of Charleston, Blaire and Blake of Alpharetta, Ga.; four sisters and two brothers, William Huff of White Sulphur Springs, Ruth Janka of Cincinnati, Ohio, Richard Huff of Waynesboro, JoAnn Nicely of White Sulphur Springs, Lee Armstrong of Wytheville, Phyllis Taylor of White Sulphur Springs; several nieces, nephews and a lifelong friend Mrs. William “Dolly” Johnson.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, White Sulphur Springs, with the Rev. Brent Sturm officiating. Interment will be at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Shanklin Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs this evening from 6 until 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Sue and Ralph Ballard Jr. Education Scholarship Fund, in care of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 25 Tressel Street, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va 24986.
