On the afternoon of Friday, May 3, Sheriff Kyle Matt Moore led a brief presentation in which he appointed a new Chief Deputy for Alleghany County. The appointment occurs nearly two weeks following the resignation of former Chief Deputy, Chad Wickline. Wickline’s successor, Thomas L. Deem brings with him 20 years of service and experience.
The brief ceremony was attended by several members of the police department as well Deem’s wife and children. During the presentation, Moore stated, “He [Deem] has held positions from patrol deputy, firearms instructor, field training officer, defensive tactics instructor, driving instructor, K9 handler for 10 years, ERT (Emergency Response Team) operator, ERT commander. He was a corporal, he was a shift supervisor and he was a control commander. And now, for his efforts, Captain Deem will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and the position of Chief Deputy.”
Afterwards, Deem’s wife, Angie Deem, was asked to step forward to assist Sheriff Moore in pinning the new Chief Deputy. Afterwards, Moore removed Deem’s old badge representing his former position as captain, and replaced it with a new badge demonstrative of his new position as Chief Deputy.
Following the presentation, Thomas L. Deem’s family stepped forward to pose for a few pictures with the new Chief Deputy of Alleghany County. Sheriff Moore then invited Deem’s family, the attending police officers, and members of the press to enjoy a slice of cake in celebration of the experienced officer’s promotion.
