Sean Onyekwere, an 11th grade student at Boys Home was a recent recipient of the first place award for the art contest sponsored by VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary. His 3-dimensional art work has been sent to Virginia Department of the auxiliary for the next level of judging.
Sean’s artwork was a clay figure of an American soldier with Old Glory waving by his. The following tells the story.
The Battle That Has Been Won.
This is about a man that was not accepted by others and was the laughing stock of the Army. The Chinese came to attack, but he was ready to fight and defend the country. The people back home were worried, but were counting on him to do the task that was asked. As they were setting up, there was an attack by the Chinese. Three died during the attack in addition to one killed in front of him. He was scared now that he was in the real world, but fought back and saved the other soldiers. He was crying on his knees asking for help from God.
They attended to the injured and called an airstrike to give us cover. As we were running to get to higher ground many were killed. It lasted four days and four nights, but we won the battle. We saved as many people as we could. We began to run ahead and saw a Chinese military base. We went in and rescued families that had been captured. We called for a helicopter to take the families to a safe place. As the enemy ran out with guns we returned fire, but five of my comrades were killed in the process. After a while the shooting stopped and the rest made it back safely with non-life threatening injuries. The man was recognized by the President for his bravery in the fight.
Thank you Sean Onyekwere for participating in the art contest. Good luck to you at the State level.
