Shirley Marie Matheney Dodd
Shirley Marie Matheney Dodd, age 87, of 38 Botany Drive, Eagle Rock, Virginia died Friday, February 9, 2024, at her residence.
She was born March 30, 1936, in Millboro, Virginia to the late William B. Matheney and Mary Inez Matheny Matheney. She worked for over 25 years in the Central Sterile Department for the C&O Hospital and Alleghany Regional Hospital. She was a member of the Iron Gate Methodist Church and the women’s group. She was an avid NASCAR fan, especially Bill Elliot, and loved reading and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Dodd Kern; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Hayslett Dodd; three brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Charles L. “Charlie” Dodd of Eagle Rock; a daughter, Wanda Hubble of Eagle Rock; a son, Charles “Billy” Dodd of Clifton Forge; a granddaughter, Heather Nicole Kern; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Edith Snedegar officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. The family will receive friends on Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Iron Gate United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 190, Iron Gate, VA 24448.
