A Georgia man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a death investigation in Clifton Forge.
Kenneth Carter Staples, 41, arrested in LaGrange, Ga., on April 28, was extradited to Alleghany County for questioning.
He is now charged with second-degree murder and grand larceny of an automobile.
After conducting a well-being check, Clifton Forge police discovered the body of 41-year-old William Brandon Wright at his residence on Jefferson
Avenue on April 27. Police said Wright apparently died of trauma to his head.
Staples was immediately named as a person of interest in the investigation because he left the scene in a truck owned by Wright.
Police believed Staples was headed to his home in Georgia. He was apprehended by police in Georgia the next day.
After being extradited to Alleghany County for questioning, Staples was charged with Wright’s murder. That charge, along with the grand larceny charge, was filed on Wednesday.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 23 in Alleghany County General District Court.
