Emory United Methodist Church located at 7401 Jackson River Road will be celebrating its annual Homecoming on August 27. The worship service will start at 11 a.m. with a covered dish meal following. Come and worship with us, enjoy a good meal and renew old acquaintances. Friends, neighbors, past members, everyone is welcome. Our pastor, Rev. Andrew Baek will be conducting the service.
Emory United Methodist Church was originally formed on March, 17, 1837 for the use of the members of Methodist Episcopal Church.
On this date, Andrew Kincaid and his wife, Anne, conveyed a parcel of land to Moses H. Mann, Fleming Keyser, Jonathon Sively, Archibald Kincaid, and Frank Stanley, trustees in trust that “they shall build or cause to be erected and built thereon a house or place of worship or shall keep the house or place of worship at present built thereon”. In other words, Emory Church was formed almost 185 years ago but we must remember that there was already a house or place of worship located on the site.
According to the inscription in the Pulpit Bible located in the case at front of the present sanctuary, this bible was presented to the church by George Law on the occasion of its dedication on October 17. 1852. This portion of the church is still used today as the sanctuary. The church was apparently known as Emory Chapel at this time.
