SALEM, Va. – Feeding Southwest Virginia will join with elected officials and community leaders on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 10:00am to discuss local food insecurity issues.
The community conversation will be hosted by Feeding Southwest Virginia, 1025 Electric Rd, Salem, VA 24153.
Elected officials will also participate in a volunteer event at the food bank, working in Quality Assurance, sorting donated food.
During this Congressional recess, Congressman Morgan Griffith and Congressman Ben Cline, along with additional state and local elected officials, are expected to attend and to participate in key conversations related to investment in programs that help reduce hunger in Southwest Virginia.
Programs that will be relevant to the upcoming 2023 Farm Bill include the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other federal nutrition programs. The farm bill is the nation’s centerpiece federal legislation for food and
farming that is reauthorized approximately every five years.
