First Ever Track and Field Meet for MGCC Completed

BRIDGEWATER, VA – Mountain Gateway Community College made school history this past weekend with the school’s first ever competition in collegiate track and field at the Doc Jopson Track and Field Invitational held at the Bridgewater College Track.

The MGCC Roadrunners track and field team featuring Benjamin Bailey, Elijah Harvey, and Jacob Ivins, competed in four events on Saturday.

Bailey from Fincastle, participated in three events. In the preliminaries of the Men’s 100-meter dash, Bailey finished 32nd with a time of 12.68. Meanwhile, in the high jump, he finished with a NH (no height), and in the long jump, Bailey placed 11th with a jump of 5.42.

Harvey, from Harrisonburg, placed 31st for the Roadrunners in the Men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 25:08, while also finishing with an NH in the high jump event.

Ivins competed in the 200-meter dash where he finished just behind Harvey as he finished in 32nd place and with a time of 25:95.

The teams next meet they’ll take part in will be on Saturday, April 8th at Randolph College.

Also, at the Doc Jopson Track and Field Invitational, former Alleghany High School track standouts Gabe Miller and Levi Counts were participants. Miller, who attends Bridgewater College, finished 20th in the Men’s 1,500 with a time of 4:25.82. Meanwhile, Counts, who attends Roanoke College finished 25th in the 1,500 with a time of 4:34.85 and also finished 28th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.40.
