The Covington Fire Department, along with Falling Springs and Dunlap Volunteer Fire Departments, responded to the 600 block of E. Dewey Street Monday at approximately 11:58 a.m. for a single structure fire.

Upon arrival of first responders the home was already fully engulfed in flames and the owner was not present, nor was anyone else was in the home during the fire.

The responding fire agencies were able to contain the fire to the single structure and have not yet been able to determine a cause.

At this time, the fire does not seem suspicious, but assistance from the Virginia State Police has been requested to help determine the cause.

Currently the resident of the home is being assisted by local community groups and social services with food, clothing and shelter at this time.

Anyone with any information on the fire is encouraged to contact the Covington Police Department by calling 540-965-6333 or emailing policeinfo@covington.va.us.
