HOT SPRINGS — Larson Wayne Hooker, 83, of Hot Springs, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at Sovah Health, Martinsville.
He was born Aug. 29, 1937, in Hot Springs, the son of the late George Washington Hooker and Lillian Gertrude Landrum Hooker.
Early in his life he owned and operated his own logging business.
He was the manager of the Homestead Stables.
After retirement he worked for Dabney Pasco as the farm manager.
Mr. Hooker loved horses…they were his life.
He enjoyed going to horse shows and horse sales.
He was the “go to guy” for anyone’s questions regarding anything about horses.
Mr. Hooker was quite a storyteller to anyone who would sit and listen to him.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna Louise Grimes Hooker of Hot Springs; five children, Susan Gwin, Mike Hooker and Sandi, Debbie Ryder and Barry, Ricky Hooker and April and Jimmy Hooker and Mindy, all of Hot Springs; eight grandchildren, Katie, Danny, Jesse, Jamie, Tye, Luke, Carter and Aubryn; a sister, Lorraine Cooke of Baltimore, Md.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Herman and George “Dink” Hooker; sisters, Beulah Steele, Bertha Kenley and Lillian Slayter.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 17, at the Union Chapel Cemetery with Donald Lee Altizer officiating.
