Jail Break At Warm Springs
Three prisoners sawed their way to freedom from a Warm Springs Jail Thursday night. The jail is filled to capacity and some of the prisoners were forced to sleep in the corridor. Early in March, the jail was broken and several prisoners escaped. The men who made their getaway Thursday followed the same course used by jail-breakers in the spring. Sam Thacker, John Smith and Bill Cochran were the men who escaped.

Marvelous Shots By Captain Hicks At Exhibition
Over a thousand persons gathered at the Fudge Farm near Covington yesterday afternoon and saw Captain M.E. Hicks proved himself the master of the revolver, rifle and shotgun in an extraordinary shooting exhibition that even topped last year’s brilliant performance.

County To Spend Millions On Schools
A $1 million elementary school building program was authorized last night at an adjourned meeting of the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors after details of the plan were discussed with the county school for three hours. The school board was authorized to borrow $380,000 for a new Callaghan School, $233,000 for a new Sharon School, $152,000 for an addition to Central High School, $56,000 for improvements and additions to Boiling Springs School and $56,000 for improvements to Falling Spring School.

Chamber Holds Ribbon Cutting
The Greater Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce extends an invitation to the public to attend a ribbon cutting at Trader’s Home Inc., 1230 South Craig Avenue, Covington, today at 10:45 a.m. Dave Mann, owner, Gerald Morris, general manager, and Jim Davis, formerly of Clayton Homes in Hollins, invite the public to attend the celebration of the opening of Trader’s Home Inc.

LGH-A Named A Top Performing Hospital
LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany has been named to the Joint Commission’s list of 620 Top Performers. Hospital officials held a picnic Friday afternoon to show their appreciation for the hospital’s employees whose hard work and dedication earned them a spot on the list.
