Covington Cougars (0-3) at James River Knights (1-1)
Last Meeting (2021): Knights 34, Cougars 32
It’s been a rough start to the season for the Covington Cougars whom have dropped their first three games of the season.
After seeing their lead slip away in the Bath County game where the Chargers rallied for the victory, the Cougars offense has only seen the end zone and the scoreboard twice in the last two games.
The Cougars head into their week four matchup with a 1-1 James River Knights team that are coming off of a 47-7 victory over Parry McCluer.
In last years meeting between the two teams, the Cougars lost a tough one at home to the Knights 34-32. That game was filled with a whole lot of offense as the two teams combined for 984 yards.
The Cougars key to the game will be needing slow down Zeal Hammon and Conner Church. Hammon threw for 141 yards connecting on 9-of-12 passes and had three total touchdowns, two in the air, and one on the ground. Meanwhile Church had two touchdowns in the game as well. The Knights put up over 500 yards of offense in their win last year.
This season, the Knights are averaging 27 points a game, which is right where the Cougars defense is giving up a game this season.
Purcel Turner in last years game had two touchdowns. An 88 yard kick return for a score and a 70 yard touchdown reception.

Cave Spring Knights (2-1) at Alleghany Mountaineers (3-0)
Last Meeting (2021): Mountaineers 8, Knights 48
The Alleghany Mountaineers are 3-0 for the first time since 2010.
So far this season everything seems to be working well for the Mountaineers who have played well on both sides of the ball.
While the offense has gone through Garrett Via who has 11 total touchdowns through three games this season, the team is averaging 41 points a game, while the defense is giving up just over eight points a game.
In this weeks matchup, they host the 2-1 Cave Spring Knights out of the River Ridge District.
This will be the Mountaineers toughest test to date this season as the Knights have had 30+ point victories over Hidden Valley and Northside. The lone loss for the Knights came against the Glenvar Highlanders just last week.
In last seasons meeting the Knights at home had full control of the game winning 48-8 and led 34-0 at halftime.
One key for the Mountaineers will be to slow down the run game of junior Camerohn Parker, who had over 100 yard rushing and a score in the Knights win over the Mountaineers last season, including runs of 50 and 65 yards. The Mountaineers lone touchdown of the game came on Via’s near 80 yard kickoff return.
While the Mountaineers last by 40 last season, this years team is a lot different and the fans at Mountain Field will be behind their Mounties.
