Mrs. Kathleen C Rumpf was honored with the prestigious Tom Downing Fellow Award at the monthly August dinner meeting of the Sharon Ruritan Club.
Natural Bridge District President Cindy Durham made the presentation, and Katty’s daughter Linda R Archer pinned her mother with the Tom Downing Fellow Pin, which was bought by the Sharon Club to honor Mrs. Rumpf for her many years of work in the club.
Long before women were allowed to join as members of Ruritan, Mrs. Rumpf worked alongside her husband George (Buck) Rumpf who was a charter member of the Sharon Club. For a number of years, Mrs. Rumpf and other Ruritan wives hosted Sharon Ruritan Board Meetings in their homes and helped to cook for monthly dinner meetings of the Ruritan men after her husband spearheaded the installation of the Sharon Club House.
Throughout the years Katty remains the “taster” at apple butter makings to ensure the “right” taste of seasonings. In addition, she holds the club title of the maker of Fried Apple Pies, especially sought out during the CF Shriner Fall Festival. At 96 years of age, she wonders if she will be able to continue this feat!
The Sharon Ruritan Club was honored to have in attendance, in addition to their District President Cindy Durham, but also their Zone President Al Durham and Ruritan National Directors Larry Bowman of Lewisburg, WV, and Cassie Flanagan of Delray, WVa.
Sharon Ruritans are always looking for members who want to help improve the lives of neighbors and businesses in our area.
