Teresa Hammond, executive director of the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, led the ribbon-cutting celebration for Michael and Ann Foster, Jack Mason’s Tavern & Brewery’s new owners, on Wed., July 6.
Former owners of the business, Martha Atherholt and Wendy Hudler, were on hand to wish the couple success. Ann and Atherholt were childhood friends.
Atherholt and Hudler established the business 12 years ago, adding a brewery to the tavern over two years ago.
Town Councilwoman Debbie Laudermilk was present. She has served as the brew mister since the brewery became a component of the tavern.
The new owners moved from Colo. to purchase the tavern that was named for Atherholt’s maternal grandfather.
Ann grew up in Lynchburg, and she is a graduate of James Madison University, and Dan moved from Montana to attend the University of Virginia.
The prepared statement from the Fosters read, “We moved here and purchased the Tavern and Brewery with the promise that Jack’s legacy would live on and hopefully grow in Clifton Forge.”
“In conclusion, it read, “We are very excited to be active members of the community and to support the continued growth of Clifton Forge and the Alleghany Highlands community. We feel that we are home.”
Dr. John J. Rainone, president of both the Mountain Gateway Community College and the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, welcomed the new owners.
He was followed by Tom Sibold, mayor of Covington; Dr. Ronald Goings, member of the Alleghany Co. Board of Supervisors; Jeff Irvine, Mayor of Clifton Forge; and Greg Madsen, representative of Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation, each of whom welcomed the Fosters.
Ann was given the honor of cutting the ribbon while Michael stood beside her and well-wishers along with dignitaries applauded. A photo session followed with the cutting of a cake as a celebratory gesture.
