Attached are three pictures I took on Monday morning, 2/7/22, of my mother’s home as the wonderful group of volunteers, Men of Missions, built this disability ramp for her.
I wanted to share this story and pictures with you,… because this wonderful group of volunteers deserve the recognition and praise – just as much or more than – they don’t want to receive it.
My mom, Mildred Mottern Wilson, is an 84yo retired nurse and a lifelong resident of the Alleghany Highlands. Significant health problems have affected her ability to “get around like she used to” or be able to safely maneuver stairs.
So on Monday morning, it was very cold, in the teens kind-of-cold, and the Men Of Missions’ portable heater was on the fritz! Fortunately, from inside a warm house, my mom; her aide, Birdina; and I watched, as this wonderful group of 11 men (and 1 grandson) built a beautiful and sturdy ramp in just under 3 hours.
They placed a very small, wooden plaque inconspicuously on the end of mom’s ramp to acknowledge their work. And a prayer is said at the completion of each project to acknowledge who they serve. This past Monday on East Phillip St. on my mom’s porch, Mr. Paul Dameron prayed for my mom’s health and for the ramp to be “as big of a blessing to her as it was for them to build it”. From this daughter’s perspective, the Men of Missions have already helped to answer my prayer; “that my mom be able to safely live independently as long as possible”.
I can’t tell you in words what a testimony it was to watch this group of Christian men happily working together to help my mom with a service that will only enhance her quality of life.
The Men of Missions do not ask for a dime… but so they can continue to help others, any monetary assistance to help with the cost of materials is greatly appreciated.
Mr. Larry Deacon is a contact for the Men of Missions.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share this “good” news.
Sincerely,
A very thankful daughter!
