Snow Storm Heads Towards Highlands



Weather forecasting models predict the movement of storm fronts, and if the current models are accurate, Virginia may receive five to 10 inches of snow on Sunday.

Should the storm bring sleet, the accumulation of snow may be less than predicted.

When Arctic air sweeps down from Canada and mixes with warmer air from the Gulf of Mexico, the result is a cold front with moisture that moves toward the Appalachian mountain range.

Several hours of snow are likely to bring hazardous driving conditions to the Alleghany Highlands as the cold front passes across Virginia.

With national weather forecasts being less than 50 percent accurate, the ever-changing atmospheric conditions will influence the storm front’s movement.
