Led by Lauren Bragg’s double-double, the Covington Cougars (2-9) girls basketball team blew out Pioneer District rival, the Bath County Chargers (0-12) on Wednesday evening by the final score of 40-18.
Bragg finished with game-high’s in points with 18 points and in rebounds with 11.
The Chargers had one lead in the game and that came with the first two points put on the scoreboard on a Laken Tingler basket.
After that, the Cougars, never looked back and before you knew it were ahead by double digits going into the second half.
In a first half highlight, off her own missed free throw, Persinger grabbed the rebound and put the ball back in through the net for an easy layup which gave the Cougar an 11-4 lead.
In the second quarter, the Cougars, would increase their lead by double digits.
Kayla Bartley, finished the game just two points shy of a double-double as she scored eight points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Zoey Jenkins led the Chargers with eight points, while Demi Legg and Lindsay Oliver collected seven rebounds each.
The game itself will also be remembered for how many fouls were called.
There was a total of 48 fouls in the game. The first half alone saw 27 fouls.
Free throw shooting was a problem for both teams. The Cougars were 18-for-39 at the free throw line, while the Chargers went 7-for-19.
