CLIFTON FORGE – Virginia Secretary of Education Laura W. Fornash will be the guest speaker during a ceremony at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College on Monday, April 23, at 10 a.m. in Room 509, McCarthy Hall, on the Clifton Forge campus.
The ceremony will be held to celebrate the signing of an agreement between DSLCC and the George Washington University School of Nursing, creating new pathways in nursing education.
As a member of Governor McDonnell’s cabinet, Secretary Fornash provides guidance to 16 public universities, the Virginia Community College System, five higher education and research centers, the Department of Education, and state-supported museums.
Prior to this position, she served as Deputy Secretary of Education and as the Executive Director of the Governor’s Commission on Higher Education Reform, Innovation and Investment. She has been instrumental in developing and promoting credit and noncredit programs that meet the needs of working professionals.
“We are honored that Secretary Fornash will be on our campus for the signing,” stated DSLCC President Dr. Richard Teaff. “It is appropriate that someone so accomplished with innovative web-based interdisciplinary masters degree programs will be with us to help celebrate the launching of nursing education pathways that will be available online for registered nurses who wish to expand their knowledge and skill sets for personal growth and professional advancement.”
Officials from George Washington University will be on hand for the signing at DSLCC and the public is invited to attend. A brief reception will follow.
