Today’s Headline: In Mayor’s Court At Clifton Forge.
Mrs. Washington Hyler was sentenced to 12 months at the State Farm for Women this morning in Mayor Frank Wheeler’s court in Clifton Forge, on a charge of cutting her husband.
The chief witness against Mrs. Hyler was her sister-in-law, Mrs. Barry Campbell, who quoted Mrs. Hyler as saying she intended to kill both Mrs. Campbell and Hyler.
The cutting episode, in which Hyler received severe slashes on the back and chest, followed by a few minutes the arrest of Campbell and Lawrence Knick on a charge of fighting.

Today’s Headline: Plane In Forced Landing & Takeoff After Local Help.
No one was injured this morning when a single-engine Ercoupe two-passenger plane made a forced landing at 10:15 a.m. at Marshall Farm near Callaghan.
The pilot of the plane was identified as Charles Freeman, 41, of Bradenton, Fla. Freeman, the only occupant of the aircraft, was enroute from his home to White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
The women of the Rich Patch Mines Church met Friday evening July 14 at the church with seven members, two visitors and one new member present.

Today’s Headline: Covington Council Attacks COLG Reports.
Covington City Council issued a formal statement this morning calling the recent report by the Commission on Local Government on the proposed consolidation a “rubber stamp” to a form of government detrimental to the city of Covington.
The COLG released its report Friday on the proposed consolidation of Covington, Clifton Forge and Alleghany, stating that the merger was in the best interest of the residents of the three communities.

Today’s Headline: Board Studies Cost Of Fork Farm Bridge.
Engineering services for design and construction of the Fork Farm Bridge are expected to cost $534,052.
The Alleghany County Board of Supervisors presented an outline Tuesday night of a contract proposed by Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern of Roanoke.
