George Carpenter and Charles Stephenson died after drinking poisonous disinfectant which they mistook for whiskey, Julian Hickman, commonwealth’s attorney for Bath County, concluded last night in announcing that he had ended his investigation.
Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Fisher returned Sunday to their home from a visit with Mr. Fisher’s mother in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Today’s Headline: Hodnett Announces Newest 1961-62 School Budget.
County School Superintedent Walter Hodnett announced today that the school board has adopted a 1961-62 budget of $762,725 which incorporates the request of the county Board of Supervisors for a $20,000 reduction.
Private Earl L. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl H. Brown, 1305 N. Alleghany Ave., Covington, is currently taking his basic conduct training with Company D, 12 Battalion of the Fourth Training Regiment (BCT) at the U.S. Army Training Center Armory.

Today’s Headline: Physician Julia Edmunds Dies.
Dr. Julia Langhorne Emmett Edmunds died Tuesday.
Dr. Edmunds, 58, of Hillcrest in Clifton Forge, was a local pediatrician with offices on Church Street, a staff member of Alleghany Regional Hospital, a visiting instructor for the University of Virginia and a director of the First National Bank in Clifton Forge.
CSX Corp. is moving 65 jobs from its Clifton Forge operation to the railyards in Cumberland, Md.

Today’s Headline: Highlands Students Win Awards At State Competition In Roanoke.
Alleghany Highlands students won 11 blue ribbons at the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs of Virginia All State Student Arts and Literature Competition.
Alice Carroll is the new administrator at Scott Hill in Clifton Forge. A reception was held Wednesday.
