UNION,W.Va. – Richard Edwin Taylor, 83, of Union, W.Va., passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, W.Va., following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 27, 1927, at Sinks Grove, W.Va., the son of the late Emory and Beatrice Honaker Taylor.
Mr. Taylor lived in Cleveland, Ohio, for 23 years and worked as a mechanic for Dodge and Plymouth dealers. He received basic private police Training at the Case Western University and provided guard services part time. He served his country in two branches of the service, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, where he served in the Artillery Division for 17 months in Korea. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Union United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Iris Dressler of Covington; and a brother, Ervin Taylor of Union.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wanza Gaye Harvey Taylor; one daughter, Katherine Elaine Moreschi and husband, Rafael of Cary, N.C., and one brother, J.P. (John) Taylor of Morehead City, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mountain View Cemetery in Wikel, W.Va., with the Rev. Bob Ratliff officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Broyles-McGuire Funeral Home in Union.
